MenRx Surgical

Founded in 2006, MenRx Surgical developed the Pro-Vas device specifically for male birth control. MenRx Surgical is marketing Pro-Vas in the United States and certain other countries around the world. The company plans to market the device in the European community during the first half of 2012 after it receives its CE mark.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted approval to Pro-Vas as a vas deferens ligation clip in 2007. There are currently 500,000 vasectomy procedures in the US. As a comparison, there are about the same number of female tubal ligation procedures.

Pro-Vas is the only male implant alternative to a traditional vasectomy. Vasectomy involves cutting, suturing and burning the vas deferens while Pro-Vas just attaches an implantable clip to the tubes.
